Below a Cross of San Damiano

The Rev. John Fairbrother

Five windows overlook the bay
Clear simple uncluttered panes
Two for air freeing light’s way
Three for shelter in cold and rain

Five windows slender and tall
Each a view melding the one
Making patterns in light’s fall
Inner space receiving the Sun

Five windows forming a curve
Appearing as an easy embrace
Of nature revealing patterns to serve
Partners displaying beautiful grace

Five windows symbols inviting a name
Serving needs of shelter light and space
In restless change remaining the same
Friends silently reflecting God’s face
