NGAI TAI VITALITY Monitoring what matters towards improving Ngai Tai outcomes

NGAI TAI | TE WHAKATÅŒHEA | TE WHÄ€NAU-Ä€-APANUI | NGÄ€TI POROU

It is important at a local level that indigenous communities are able to define and measure their health and wellbeing in their own terms, and in ways that affirm their worldviews. Central to the concept of iwi (Māori tribal) vitality is the notion that iwi are able to actively determine what matters to them and in turn, that outcomes of these aspirations, such as a secure iwi identity, intergenerational sustainability, collective cohesion, environmental stewardship, self-determination, economic prosperity, and whānau health and wellbeing, are vibrantly expressed.

In this lecture, Jodi Porter will explore the concept of Ngai Tai vitality and examine the potential contribution of the Ngai Tai Vitality Outcomes monitoring framework towards informing iwi based decision-making, planning, prioritisation, resource allocation and action to meet shared outcome goals in terms relevant to Ngai Tai in particular and more generally to other iwi and local level Māori communities. Jodi will share insights from her initial doctoral research findings, focusing on the voice of Ngai Tai leaders and demonstrating the potential application of the framework towards improving Ngai Tai outcomes.
