Easter Morning

The Rev. Canon Dr. James M. McPherson

At every turn of his incarnate life
from his conceiving to the Easter tomb
he bore the crushing yoke of earthly woe –
dismissing it as “light” – and knew the scorch
of urgent conflict with the Evil One
until –   like carbon crushed and furnace-fired
that forms the diamond, lovely to behold –
the Son now lives as God's betrothal stone
and Banquet invitation to his own.
